Why is it important to upgrade your switchboard?

  • Older style fuse boxes with rewirable fuses made of porcelain are no longer up to Aotearoa’s building code. Rewireable fuses take considerably longer to recognise power overloading which could lead to heat damage in your property’s internal wiring posing a serious fire risk.

  • Modern switchboards are compliant with current regulations. They are wired with circuit breakers and residual current devices (RCDs) that provide additional protection against electrical shocks and fire. 

  • If there is a fault, such as a short circuit, modern switchboard components trip quicker than older types. This means that power to faulty wiring is swiftly isolated.

  • A newer, more energy-efficient switchboard can also help lower monthly expenses.
